National Technology Import in the First 3 Quarters up by 45.2% on a Year-on-Year Basis

According to statistics released from the Ministry of Commerce, total 8112 contracts of technology import were registered nationwide in the first 3 quarters of 2006, and the contract value amounted to US$17.95 billion, up by 45.2% on a year-on-year basis. The technology fees reached US$11.55 billion, accounting for 64.3% of total contract value. Technology import maintained a big growth.

In the first 3 quarter of 2006, the transaction value of contracts for know-how Licensing were US$5.58 billion, up by 57.5% on a year-on-year basis, accounting for 31.1% of total contract value, and value of cooperative production and joint venture contracts concerning technology consulting, service and import amounted to US$4.05 billion and US$3.72 billion respectively, accounting for 22.5% and 20.7% respectively of total value of technology import, ranking No.2 and 3 respectively.

EU was the biggest source of China's technology import in the first 3 quarters, and total 1990 contracts of technology import were signed between China and EU with a value of US$7.54 billion, up by 32% and accounting for 42% of the total. Japan and the USA followed and the value of technology import of them reached US$4.45 billion and US$2.89 billion respectively, accounting for 24.8% and 16.1% respectively.

Value of technology import by foreign investment enterprises hit US$8.69 billion, up by 49% on a year-on-year basis, accounting for 48.4% of total technology import value of the nation. On the other hand, value of technology import by state-owned enterprises was US$8.04% billion, up by 55.4% and accounting for 44.8% of the total.

Value of technology import contracts registered in railway transportation industry totaled US$3.98 billion, up by 8.5 times, accounting for 22.2% of the total in the industry. Railway transportation was still the industry with biggest scale and highest speed in technology import of China. In electronic and communication equipments manufacturing, the technology import maintained a high speed growth and totally imported 1186 technologies with the contract value of US$3.49 billion, up by 123.7% and accounting for 19.5% of the total in the industry. In the mean time, technology import in transportation equipment manufacturing amounted to US$1.48 billion, and the share was up to 8.3%.
