Strong discontent voiced on EU's anti-dumping policy

BEIJING, Oct. 8-- Chinese shoemakers are strongly dissatisfactory at European Union (EU)'s anti-dumping measures against Chinese-made leather shoes, said a spokesman of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Light Industrial Products and Arts-Crafts (CCCLA) on Sunday.

EU's new policy, which was adopted on October 5, will be detrimental to the lawful rights of Chinese shoemakers and it willnot be beneficial to EU's shoemakers' competitiveness, the spokesman said, adding that the interests of EU's shoe importers, retailers, wholesalers and consumers will be inevitably hurt, as well.

EU had adopted a quota policy for Chinese-made shoes for 10 years, but EU's shoe industry failed to catch the opportunity to get adjusted during the period, said the spokesman who preferred not to be identified..

The spokesman said that problems EU's shoe industry faces are not caused by the imports of Chinese-made shoes.

The majority of Chinese shoemakers are private companies, and since China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), the government has kept its promise not to interfere into business activities of companies, said the spokesman.

Protectionism can not resolve the problems EU's shoe industry faces and the only way-out for resolving the problems is bilateral cooperation between shoe industries of the two sides, the spokesman said.

Chinese shoemakers will continue safeguarding their rights, in collaboration with importers' and retailers' bodies of EU and in accordance with relevant documents of WTO, the spokesman added.
