| Supply and Demand Meeting of Taiwan Agricultural Produce Held in Fuzhou |

The Supply and Demand Meeting of Taiwan Agricultural Produce was held in Fuzhou in order to expedite the entry of Taiwan agricultural produce into Mainland market after the enjoyment of zero tariff, and was co-sponsored by the Cross-Straits Association for Economic and Trade Exchanges and China Chamber of Commerce For Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce And Animal By-Products. Jiang Bingkun, Vice Chairman of the Kuomintang, Fujian Vice Governor Ye Shuangyu and over 200 businessmen across Taiwan straits took part in the Meeting. The Cross-Straits Economic and Trade Forum was held on April 15, and Mr. Chen Yunlin, Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, was authorized to announce at the Forum that the Mainland would release the market access of 4 kinds of Taiwan fruit and 11 categories of Taiwan vegetables and would implement preferential measure of zero tariff on 11 categories of vegetables and 8 categories of aquatic products. Relative department of the mainland authorize the Cross-Straits Association for Economic and Trade Exchanges to negotiate with non-governmental organizations in Taiwan on Certificate of Origin and technical issues like inspection, quarantine and transportation. The Cross-Straits Association for Economic and Trade Exchanges invited Taiwan non-governmental organizations for formal visits at the end of April and got response from Taiwan Agriculture and Food Agency and Taipei World Trade Center. And the preparation work for formal negotiation across Taiwan Straits was carrying on. Li Shuilin, Chairman with the Cross-Straits Association for Economic and Trade Exchanges, said during the Meeting that the Association prepared well and hoped that Taiwan non-governmental organizations could come to Beijing for formal negotiation on technical issues and reach consensus for early implementation of zero tariff. Besides the Meeting, the Association also considered about organizing delegations from Mainland to inspect, negotiate and purchase in Taiwan to promote sales of Taiwan agricultural produce in Mainland. Mr. Li Shuilin introduced that the Ministry of Commerce was studying to set up wholesales centers, exhibition centers and retail sales counters for Taiwan agricultural produce in major distribution centers and chain supermarkets in Mainland. For issue of registration, fake and infringement of agricultural produce concerned about by Taiwan agricultural sector, the Ministry was actively researching to find out method to settle down the issues and protect the legal rights and interests of Taiwan farmers. Leaders from the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Agriculture, Fujian Provincial Government and Fuzhou Municipal Government, and representatives from Taiwan Agriculture and Food Agency, and Fisheries Agency took part in the Meeting.
