| China-EU trade officials held consultations on the issue of Chinese textile exports to the EU |

On August 25, led by Lu Jianhua, director of the Foreign Trade Department of MOFCOM, and Fritz-Harald Wenig, Director of the Trade Defence of the EU, China and EU trade officials held technical-level consultations on textiles in Beijing. The Chinese side expressed great concern over the Chinese textile holding-up at EU customs, while the EU admitted the policy did not meet the interests of its domestic traders and consumers, so the two sides conducted serious talks towards an effective solution to the issue. it is reported that Chinese textile exportation situation has markedly ameliorated since the two sides signed a textile memorandum of understanding. Chinese total textile exports to the EU were valued at 2.1 billion US dollars in June, up 85 percent year-on-year, which represented a reverse of a sharp decline of textile exportation in April and May when EU and the United States announced to adopt restrictive measures to Chinese exports. Because both sides’ enterprises were keen on export and import quantity during a administration vacuum, some Chinese textile products were held up at the customs in EU countries.
