29.7% Increase in Exports of Taiwan in January 2005

According to Taiwan media, Taiwan financial department announced recently that imports and exports in January amounted to US$15.31 billion and US$15.51 billion respectively, up by 29.9% and 46.7% respectively. Trade deficit maintained and reached US$200 million in January with the background that import price of international crude oil and steel grew by big margins. Xu Guozhong, leader of statistics of Taiwan financial department, expressed that imports and exports in January kept the trend of increase since August 2003. Growth in exports of Taiwan to Hong Kong, Mainland, USA, Japan and ASEAN was more than 20%, and in imports from Hong Kong, Mainland, USA and Europe was higher than 37%.
