On May 21, the meeting of the State Council proposed that on one hand, quake relief must be undertaken unswervingly, and on the other hand, the country has to develop economy firmly, which is the major decision made by the State Council based on the current quake relief and economic situation from the overall national development.

Quake relief is still currently the most and important and pressing task, allowing for no delay. Since the strong earthquake happened in Wenchuan, under the strong leadership of Central Committee of the Party and the State Council of China, the relief work has been carried out strongly and orderly to rescue trapped persons fully and launch the work of arranging the people’s life in disaster area, which is being carried foreword indomitably under the toughest circumstances. The following is to go on seeking and rescuing trapped people without stop, and at the same time, the essential demands of people in quake-hit area must be satisfied, and sanitation and anti-epidemic strength shall be increased to guarantee no epidemic after the disaster. Moreover, the new losses caused by secondary disasters have to be avoided and the reconstruction work after disaster should be carried out properly, so the task is heavier and more efforts are needed.
