| Foreign Media Praised China’s Quake Relief |

After the strong earthquake happened in Sichuan caused great casualty and property loss, foreign media recently contributed articles successively to praise Chinese government and people for active and effective quake relief work as well as transparent and open reports, and strongly believed Chinese people had the ability to reconstruct good homes. On May 18, foreign presses such as Associated Press (AP) and Agency France Press (AFP) reported Chinese President Hu Jintao went to Wenchuan, the hardest quake-hit area to inspect the disaster situation. It was reported that on May 17,whie inspecting the most disaster-hit towns, Hu gave orders that rescue of people be put in the first place, and even there was a little hope, the most effort should be exerted to rescue trapped people. On May 17, RIA Novosti published the article “China, stand firm”, which said facing the disaster, China showed the steadfast and persevering character. China won the global respect and praise for valuing life. US Los Angeles Times, on May 17, published an article in the front page, saying that after the tremor happened in Sichuan, China revealed the finest feature of “modern, flexible and open” in the relief actions. |
