HONG KONG, Nov. 8 -- A Hong Kong official said in Washington that Hong Kong is an international financial center that offers bountiful opportunities for career development, the Information Services Department of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government said on Thursday.

According to a press release from the department, Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Frederick Ma told a Washington audience on Wednesday at local time that Hong Kong is a magnet for talent.

Addressing Georgetown University business students, Ma said a number of the school's business students had joined summer study programs in collaboration with the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

During his two-day visit to Washington, Ma provided an update on Hong Kong's promising economic outlook and bountiful business opportunities to administration officials, members of Congress academics, students and business community representatives.

He spoke of the successful implementation of "one country, two systems", the city's unique role in China's economic development and the incomparable business opportunities presented by the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement at a lunch hosted by Hong Kong's Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs in the United States, Margaret Fong.

According to the department, Ma will attend a breakfast roundtable hosted by the U.S.-China Business Council and meet California Congressman Wally Herger on Thursday. He will then visit Toronto in Canada.
