| Mainland market attracts toy manufacturers from Hong Kong |

It is known from the 2007 Hong Kong Toy Festival being held in Shanghai recently held that there were about 286 million children in the mainland with an increasing demand for consumption of toys. For Hong Kong toy industry, the mainland has become the fourth largest toy exporting market. As one of the six major traditional manufacturing industries, export of toys in Hong Kong was US$9.94b, among which US$ 1.15b was exported to the mainland, increasing 104% compared with that of last year. From January to May, the export to the mainland was up to US$850m. It is said that eleven state-owned enterprises took part in Hong Kong Toy Festival, while the number increased to 17 this year. According to some estimates that the mainland toy consumption will surpass RMB100b in 2010. As the toys made in Hong Kong are of high technology and security, there is great business in the mainland market. |
