| Taiwan shares add 0.6％ to close near 7-year high |

HONG KONG, May 7 -- Taiwan shares advanced 49.21 points, or 0.6 percent, to close at 8,115.27, near the all-time high on Monday, according to media reports reaching here Monday from Taipei. The benchmark weighted index of the Taiwan Stock Exchange opened at 8,122.2 and fluctuated between intra-day low of 8,095.04and intra-day high of 8,132.8 before moving up 49.21 points, or 0.6 percent, to close at 8115.27, near the highest level of 8,118.05 recorded on August 22, 2000. The food sector gained 2.4 percent, and glass soared 3 percent. Steel and transport sectors advanced 1.7 percent each. |
