BEIJING, Jan. 12 -- Shoppers at some B&Q home decoration stores will later be able to drive into a particular lane, order fried chicken at the first window and pick up the food at the second.

The U.S. fast food giant Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and British home improvement brand B&Q signed an agreement in Beijing on Tuesday, which allows KFC to open drive-through restaurants inside some of the British company's stores nationwide.

KFC outlets will first open in three B&Q stores in Shanghai, Qingdao and Wuxi.

Shoppers will be able to order, pay the bill and pick up the food within four minutes, according to a press release provided by KFC China. Drive-throughs can serve six to seven cars at the same time.

The ever-growing number of private cars on the mainland and need for quick meals in a fast-paced society point to the demand for more drive-throughs in China.

"KFC is capitalizing on China's increasing mobility, fast-paced lifestyle, greater consumer spending power by offering Chinese consumers the ultimate innovation in convenience," said J. Samuel Su, president of Yum! Brands International Greater China, parent of KFC.

Mariusz Gliwinski, CEO of B&Q China, said he believes the agreement will lead to win-win cooperation between the two multinational companies. The British brand now owns 58 stores on the mainland.

KFC opened its first drive-through on the mainland at the Asian Olympics Village district in Beijing five years ago. It now has drive-throughs in Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuxi and Changchun.

Operating more than 1,700 restaurants in the mainland's 360 cities, the U.S. fast food giant is expected to open 100 drive-throughs across the country within three years.

KFC signed an agreement to open its first Shenzhen drive-through last April, and this will be located in Longhua Subdistrict, Bao'an District. B&Q stores in Shenzhen will open drive-through KFC outlets when they meet certain conditions laid down by KFC.
