| China's timber supply meets demand in 2005 |

BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- China's timber supply met its demand in 2005, with the supply and demand standing at 325.9 and 325.7 million cubic meters respectively, the State Forestry Administration (SFA) said here Tuesday. Cao Qingyao, the spokesman of SFA, told a press conference at the Information Office of the State Council that China's trade of timber products saw a trade surplus for the first time last year, reaching 3.064 billion U.S. dollars. At present, he said although China is short of paper and paper pulp, as well as some huge logs and timber, a lot of other timber products have been exported from China to other countries. A survey shows that the middle and young-aged trees have accounted for about 67.85 percent of China's forestry resources, indicating that the timber supply is rich in China. |
