New coal reserves discovered in Xinjiang

Chinese geological prospectors have discovered a coal field in Hutubi County in northwest China's Uygur Autonomous Region.

The coal field extends 12.5 km by 8.5 km, with four exploitable strata. Its coal reserve is estimated at one billion tons.

Xinjiang possesses 40 percent of China's total coal reserves with a proven coal reserve of 95 billion tons.
