The Asian Development Bank says it believes economic growth in China may slow to 9.9 percent this year, and 9.7 percent next year on the back of an appreciating yuan, tighter policies and weaker external demand. ADB has highlighted related factors such as a protracted US slowdown and tighter government policies to contain inflation. An earlier ADB estimate in December last year suggested that China may post a growth of 10-and-a-half percent this year. The first half of this year saw GDP expand 10.4 percent, easing down from 10.6 percent in the first quarter. Meanwhile, the government has said the country will maintain a tight monetary policy, and ensure that the fight against inflation remains a top priority for officials at all levels. |
