His Majesty King Abdullah will start a three-day visit to China on October 29, a Royal Court statement said.

During the visit, the two countries will sign several agreements in the fields of economy, development and culture.

The King’s schedule includes talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and several academicians, investors and opinion leaders from Beijing and Shanghai.

His Majesty is also scheduled to deliver a speech at the Beijing University on Jordanian-Chinese ties and Arab-Chinese relations, highlighting China’s contributions in support of efforts seeking to bring about peace and stability in the Middle East.

The visit coincides with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Jordan and China.

King Abdullah will also visit several pioneering IT and telecom establishments and projects, the statement said, adding that Jordan seeks to transfer the Chinese expertise in technological planning, infrastructure and services, along with heavy industries and IT, to economic development zones in the Kingdom.

The Monarch has launched three development zones in Mafraq, Irbid and Maan since last December. Aqaba was declared a special economic zone in 2001.

“The Kingdom enjoys economic potential that qualifies it to serve as an economic gate for many Chinese products and projects in the Middle East,” the statement said.

Chinese investors can benefit from the Qualifying Industrial Zones in the country and agreements such as the Free Trade Agreement with the US and the Jordan-European Association Agreement, it added.

Jordan and China have recently developed “a mechanism for dialogue”. Under a memorandum of understanding the two sides have signed, they will be consulting on political, economic and developmental affairs related to the Middle East.
