On the morning of April 23, the 6th China-Brunei Consultation Meeting on Trade, Investment and Economic Cooperation was held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. The meeting was co-chaired by Vice Minister of Commerce Yan Dong and Dr. Hajah May Fa’ezah, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Brunei. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on deepening China-Brunei economic and trade relations and other issues.
Yan Dong said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Brunei economic and trade cooperation has proceeded steadily, achieving mutual benefit and win-win outcomes. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. China is ready to take this opportunity to further align the Belt and Road Initiative with Wawasan Brunei 2035, deepen trade and investment cooperation, tap into the potential for cooperation in e-commerce, the digital economy, and green development, advance the building of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0, pursue high-quality implementation of the RCEP, and deepen cooperation within the WTO framework. China aims to jointly promote openness and mutual benefit, and push China-Brunei economic and trade relations to a new level.
Dr. Hajah May Fa’ezah said that China is an important economic and trade partner of Brunei. Brunei is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in both traditional and emerging fields, such as industry, agriculture and fisheries, tourism, and the digital economy, and welcomes investment of more Chinese enterprises. Brunei supports China in hosting the APEC meeting in 2026, and welcomes and supports China’s accession to the CPTPP. Brunei stands ready to work with China to make greater contributions to the development of the Asia-Pacific region. (Released on April 24)
